Gael Monfils vs Jannik Sinner Prediction and Odds: Canadian Open 2023

One of the game’s great entertainers, Gael Monfils, is set to take on the 7th seed, Jannik Sinner in the night session of August 11th, according to the latest Canadian Open schedule. And when it comes to picking a couple of key betting markets for this one, I’ve revealed two right here that you should consider.

These odds from Ladbrokes were correct at the time of writing.

Monfils vs Sinner – Match Predictions

Gael Monfils has enjoyed a remarkable tournament so far. The veteran got into the main draw through his protected ranking, but he has reminded us all of what he is capable of on a tennis court. The guy has beaten the in-form Eubanks in his opening round, followed by the 4th seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Aleksandar Vukic to reach the quarter-finals. In contrast, Jannik Sinner has played just one match at the 2023 National Bank Open.

That’s because he received a bye, then beat Berrettini, then received a walkover against Murray in the last round. Anyway, taking this into account, what are my tennis predictions today for this game? Check out my two tips below:

Monfils to Win a Set – Yes

The reality is that the odds aren’t in Monfils’ favor for this match. Yet can he win a set? Absolutely. All he needs is a loose service game from Sinner to be in a commanding position to grab a set. And that can certainly happen.

Monfils +4.5 Games Handicap

To clarify, I believe Monfils has a shot at beating Sinner today. Yet Sinner is definitely the favorite. Therefore, rather than going overly risky with a Monfils win, I’m going for a +4.5 games handicap for the Frenchman.

Monfils vs Sinner Preview

This quarter-final match will be the 5th installment of Sinner vs Monfils that we’ve seen on the ATP Tour. But how about a quick preview before we watch this game unfold? I’ve provided one for each player below.

Gael Monfils Preview

At the 2023 National Bank Open so far, Monfils has been sensational. He produced two big wins, followed by a straightforward win over Vukic in the last round, to make the quarters. And he is striking the ball like he used to – with immense power and precision. My only doubt here is whether the extra court time might hinder him physically today, especially against his much younger opponent.

Jannik Sinner Preview

Sinner is one of the biggest hitters on tour, and the humidity in Canada makes his shots all that more difficult to deal with. However, he’s only had to play one match to get to the quarters, so there’s a chance he might not be as sharp as Monfils out of the blocks. But with that said, he’s the 7th seed for a reason.

Monfils vs Sinner Head to Head

These guys have played four times in the past, and Sinner leads the head-to-head 3-1. Interestingly, three of these four matches were played on indoor hard courts, and all ended in straight sets. Sinner, however, won two of these three indoor hard-court games. Yet for the sole match that was played on outdoor hard, at the 2021 US Open, Sinner needed five sets to beat Monfils.
