Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse is keen to add Red Resistance, Perfect Proposal and Just Glamorous to the powerful two-year-old team she is assembling for her attempt at a record eighth win in the Golden Slipper during the Sydney autumn carnival.

Waterhouse, who trains in partnership with Adrian Bott, is testing the Golden Slipper credentials of unbeaten colt Red Resistance in the Group 3 $200,000 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) and the fillies, Perfect Proposal and Just Glamourous, clash in the Group 3 $200,000 Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

“The two-year-olds are so exciting,’’ Waterhouse said.

“This is what racing is all about, it’s the best time of the year as we build towards the Golden Slipper (March 18).

“Red Resistance is a lovey colt, I’m looking forward very much to Perfect Proposal resuming and Just Glamourous is also very good.’’

Unbeaten colts King’s Gambit ($1.35) and Red Resistance ($5.50) meet in a compelling clash for the Canonbury.

Red Resistance has race fitness on his side after a tough debut win over the Rosehill 1100m two weeks ago but King’s Gambit has been favourite for the $5m Golden Slipper since his runaway five lengths win in the Debutant Stakes at Caulfield last spring.

“They are both very talented young horses,’’ Waterhouse said.

“But I know Adrian couldn’t be happier with Red Resistance. Like most of the Russian Revolutions, he’s a natural two-year-old and very tough.’’

Perfect Proposal is resuming after running second in the Gimcrack Stakes last spring and Just Glamourous was doing her best work on the line when a close debut fourth at Warwick Farm a month ago.

“I thought Perfect Proposal trialled well,’’ Waterhouse said.

“She has spring form on her side which always stands them in great stead.

“Just Glamorous is race-fit and has continued to improve. She will be extremely hard to beat.’’

Perfect Proposal is at $3.90 and pressing unraced Learning To Fly ($3.80) for favouritism with Just Glamourous rated a $14 chance.

Waterhouse has used both feature Rosehill two-year-olds to mount successful Golden Slipper campaigns.

Vancouver (2015) and Sebring (2008) won the Canonbury-Golden Slipper double while Overreach completed the Widden-Golden Slipper double.

The champion trainer has also prepared Golden Slipper winners Pierro (2012), Dance Hero (2004) and Ha Ha (2001), and then won the race with Farnan (2020) in partnership with Bott.

Waterhouse and Bott already have unbeaten The Instructor and talented fillies Platinum Jubilee and Summer Loving all prominent in early betting for the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on March 18.

The Instructor will go straight to the Blue Diamond after his brilliant win in the Preview at Sandown on Thursday while Platinum Jubilee and Summer Loving are back in Tulloch Lodge at Randwick after finishing second and third in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic two weeks ago.

“The Instructor was very impressive and he won’t need to race again before the Blue Diamond,’’ Waterhouse said.

“Platinum Jubilee and Summer Loving are top-class fillies, they are back in the stable and we will aim them at the Golden Slipper now.’’
