Spending a work shift photographing at a racetrack isn't a bad way to spend a Saturday.

Coming into the Grade 2 Secretariat Stakes held for the first time at Colonial Downs, no one expected Gigante to win the race with 22-1 odds. However, the Virginia-bred three-year-old made history by winning the stakes in the state where he was born. 

In the final day of the Colonial Downs horse racing season, New Kent welcomed the Virginia Derby and the Virginia Oaks, two races with combined purses of $750,000 guaranteed.
