Both goaltenders were not at their finest in Game 3. Colorado jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in the second period. Then, Seattle roared back with two goals to tie the game. After that, the Avalanche struck back with three third period goals led by Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon. By the time Seattle answered, only seconds remained in the contest.

For the first time this season, Colorado figured out Philipp Grubauer and the Kraken. It looked like the Avalanche of last year’s playoffs where they scored then tacked on one or two more goals.

Colorado controlled most of the final two periods and had 11 of the 17 high-danger chances. That set up the two goals in 88 seconds which changed the complexion of the game and maybe the series.

Bluntly, an angry Nathan Mackinnon is a dangerous MacKinnon. Him and Rantanen have been difference makers all series long. Seattle does not seem to have a true answer for the duo.

So, like we said, Seattle finally got blitzed by Colorado. It seemed bound to occur at some juncture. The question becomes how does Seattle cope. Do they fire back or was Game 3 the turning point in the entire series?

What adjustments can Seattle make on Monday night? Honestly, they did get four pucks past Alexandar Georgiev and that still was not enough. Basically, when Colorado’s top players assert themselves, Seattle cannot keep up.

The one thing Seattle must do is stay out of the penalty box and keep testing Georgiev. Short of Game 2, the 40-game winner this year has looked kind of average in this series. At some point, he has to stand tall again.
