Gardner-Webb football: What to know ahead of its FCS second round game

Gardner-Webb football team is playing William & Mary in the FCS second round. Kickoff is at 2 p.m. at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Virginia. Last week, the team advanced with a 52-41 win at Eastern Kentucky. William and Mary is ranked No. 5 in FSC and has won seven straight games. The team will play Montana State or Weber State in quarterfinals.

Gardner-Webb is 4-4 this season. It is its ninth road game of the season and has won over Charleston Southern, Campbell and Eastern Kentucky.

William & Mary averages 274 rushing yards per game. Senior running back Bronson Yoder is the leading rusher with 1,061 rushing yard, 10 touchdowns. Big South's leading tackler is William McRainey, who has 216 career tackles.

Gardner-Webb football team plays in the FCS second round. Quarterback Bailey Fisher was voted Big South Offensive Player of the Year. His favorite target is T.J. Luther, who has 62 catches for 1,134 yards and eight touchdowns.

Gardner-Webb's defense has been hampered by injuries this fall. Big South Defensive Player of the Year Ty French, Charlie Jackson and Brice Bass have started each of their 12 games. Janathian Turner has started in every game but the Oct. 8 game at Robert Morris.
