Georgia Southern vs. Buffalo prediction and odds for Camellia Bowl

Georgia Southern and Buffalo meet in the Camellia Bowl to kick off a four game December 27th college football bowl schedule with an intriguing storyline in the mix.

Georgia Southern quarterback, Kyle Vantrease, is a Buffalo transfer, as he revitalized the Eagles in his first season with Clay Helton taking over as head coach. The Eagles won a thriller in overtime to qualify for a bowl game and now their quarterback will face his former team.

Meanwhile, the Bulls needed to win a rescheduled game against lowly Akron to qualify for a bowl, failing to cover in four straight games to close the season.

Georgia Southern vs. Buffalo Prediction and Pick

Georgia Southern’s offense had question marks heading into Helton’s first season as they transition from the triple option, but the team quieted concerns with a squad that had a standout offensive line (seven sacks allowed) and was top 30 in success rate. The team was efficient, especially on the ground, where they averaged nearly five yards per carry and was 30th in explosive run rate.

They will face a Buffalo team that had an up-and-down season that started with a 0-3 start, a five game winning streak, and then losing three of four to finish the season 6-6. The team will be down two key running backs (Al-Jay Henderson and Ron Cook Jr) in this game which is both the strong point of the Bulls offense and the Achilles heel of the Eagles defense (121st in success rate allowed).

Buffalo’s defense was a bit overrated during the season as well, pouncing on an unsustainable turnover margin to hold teams out of the end zone. On the season, the team is 106th in yards per play allowed, but allow just about two points per drive (49th best in the country). The team forced the ninth most turnovers in the country to keep their point totals down.

Against a formidable offense like Georgia Southern, I expect them to struggle to keep up as more regression is coming their way.
