An in-state Sun Belt rivalry matchup between the Georgia State Panthers and the Georgia Southern Eagles will take the national spotlight on Thursday night on ESPN2. The Panthers are 6-1 SU and 5-2 ATS this season following a 2-game winning streak after their bye while the host Eagles are 5-2 SU and 4-3 ATS following a win over UL Monroe last week. The Eagles should have a bit of added motivation in this game, as the Panthers have won and covered 3 straight as favorites against Georgia Southern since 2020.

Georgia Southern is in an advantageous spot in this particular matchup. While this is an in-state game with minimal travel, it will be Georgia State’s second straight road game after a hard-fought 20-17 victory at Louisiana on Saturday. Georgia Southern, on the other hand, played at home last week in its win over the Warhawks and do not have to worry about travel on a mutually short week. Coincidentally, the home team also has the better offensive line – as the Eagles have the best pass blocking grade and the 3rd-best run blocking grade in the Sun Belt per PFF. The Panthers are 12th out of 14 teams in pass rush and 13th in pass coverage, so the added pocket protection is likely to give Davis Brin plenty of time to find his receivers. Brin has been a bit sloppy as a passer and leads the conference in turnover-worthy plays when kept clean, but Georgia State has not been very opportunistic defensively. The Panthers are outside the top 95 in havoc created since Week 4 while ranking outside the top 80 in PPA per pass and pass success rate allowed. Brin and the Eagles should find success through the air against the Panthers defense, so I am going to side with the home team to end its 3-game losing streak to its in-state conference rival on Thursday night.
