Getting back to "the standard" for Boise State football

It's the 12th anniversary of Boise State football's first appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated. The current team wants to get back to the "Boise State standard" of 10 wins. Since Kellen Moore left, the Broncos have notched six 10-win seasons.

ESPN is out of the Big Ten football and basketball business for the first time in 40 years. The network wants to fill the late-night slot with Pac-12 games. Boise State made a living off late night ESPN games in the 2000s.

SMU is striking a deal with Boulevard Collective to pay its football players $36,000 per year. Boise State has done an outstanding job of managing NIL on behalf of its athletes.

Boise State's athletic director Jeramiah Dickey unveiled some updates to the plan last week. The most tangible details had to do with Albertsons Stadium’s north end zone. Improvements in ExtraMile Arena include the construction of loge and club seating.

Boise State has 110 players for fall camp. Elelyon Noa, brother of linebacker Zeke NoA, transferred from Utah State. He rushed for 597 yards last year and averaged 4.3 yards per carry with four touchdowns.

Boise State's season starts three weeks from Saturday at Oregon State. The Beavers' offensive line was the focal point of their last season's success. Boise State has struggled to improve on its poor rushing performance over the past two years.

Demario Warren is Boise State's new cornerbacks coach. He has five players to choose from for his two starting spots. Markel Reed started last season as a starter, Caleb Biggers took over when Reed was injured and played well. Kaonohi Kaniho took the starting spot as well, and so did Tyriq LeBeauf. Jared Reed is a wild card.

Boise State and BYU are playing each other in November. The Broncos are the preseason No. 1 team in the USA Today Coaches Poll. BYU is No 29. Last year, the Cougars were beaten 26-17 in Provo despite being the No 10 team.

The Aztecs are less than four weeks away from the opening of Snapdragon Stadium. The team is also the overwhelming favorite to move to the Pac-12. A rape investigation has thrown cold water on the excitement.

Avery Williams has been moved to running back by the Atlanta Falcons. He is making plays and catching the ball well out of the backfield. Atlanta opens the exhibition season against Detroit on Friday night.

Troy Merritt is playing in the FedExCup playoffs at the St. Jude Championship in Memphis. He is ranked No. 64. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the BMW Championship next week.

Boise State football team lost 7-3 to Missoula Paddleheads last night. The team with the worst record in the Pioneer League is in a six-game home-and-home series with Missulah Paddles.

Boise State football graces the cover of Sports Illustrated for the first time on August 10, 2010. Ryan Winterswyk, Brandyn Thompson and Jeron Johnson were the models. The 2010 team would prove to be arguably the best in school history, but a painful overtime loss at Nevada kept the Broncos from reaching the Rose Bowl.
