Glorious Goodwood Day 1 Tips 2023: Check out all the best bets for Tuesday's action

Goodwood Day 1 Tips here as our in-house tipster Steve Chambers picks out his best bets across the four live ITV races, which includes an eye-catching selection in the Goodwood Cup at 16:35...

Charlie Johnston saddled the winner of this event 12 months and under the stewardship of Mark Johnston prior the yard have a superb record in this 1m 1f 197y handicap, which is off at 14:50 on Tuesday and they can land victory again in it with OUTBREAK, who looks a decent each-way play at double-figured odds.

A fine winner at Newmarket off a mark of 91 back in May, the four-year-old Dark Angel colt has since struggled to follow up with a fifth placed finish at Newbury and a poor run in the Royal Hunt Cup, where he finished 26th of 30. However, he was handed a lot to do that day as he was sent to the front early doors and was unable to maintain the gallop through the latter stages. Dropped back to a mark of 96 for this event, he will need to bounce back from that Ascot run, but if he can replicate his May display from Newmarket then he has to be a leading player.

Fifth in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, Richard Hannon's Haatem then went and finished an excellent runner-up in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket and looks to be more than capable of going close in the Vintage Stakes, which looks a hugely competitive 7f juvenile event at 15:25.

One fascinating contender is the Charles Hills-trained IBERIAN, who has only been seen on the track once, but the son of Lope De Vega was an easy winner of a Newbury novice event earlier in the season and definitely shaped like he could easily be a Pattern performer. Eased home that day, he is sure to come on leaps and bounds for the outing and with Haatem having struggled to get his head in front at this level then Iberian could just have a little more class than his current market rival.

A multiple Group 1 winner last season, Ralph Beckett's KINROSS has struggled to deliver the goods this campaign, but he appears to have been handed an ideal contest to get back to winning ways and the top notch six-year-old can prove to be a cut above his rivals in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at 16:00.

Seventh in the Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, Kinross then went and finished a decent third in the July Cup at Newmarket last time out over six furlongs, but he's often been seen in his best light over seven furlongs. The likes of Isaac Shelby and Al Suhail will be big rivals here, but if Kinross is on his A game then he should have far too much class for his rivals and he can hand favourite backers a winner here.

John & Thady Gosden's Courage Mon Ami was a stunning winner of the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot to make it four wins from four and the four-year-old son of Frankel is entitled to be a warm order for the Goodwood Cup at 16:35 on Tuesday, where he will lock horns with Gold Cup runner-up Coltrane in the showpiece event on day one of the meeting.

While the front two in the betting are deserved of their place it's the Aidan O'Brien-trained EMILY DICKINSON that could cause a minor shock, as she has looked a top notch stayer on her day. Fourth in the Gold Cup, the Ballydoyle filly struggled to see out the longer trip at Ascot and she relished a drop back to 1m 6f in the Curragh Cup, as she claimed Group 2 glory and she can build on that here. She has winning form over two miles, so has shown this trip isn't beyond her and in receiving weight from her male rivals then she could land this prize.
