Goodwood reports: Royal Scotsman justifies heavy support in Richmond
Royal Scotsman won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood. He was heavily backed and was the 5-6 favourite. The son of Gleneagles finished third in the Coventry Stake at Royal Ascot.
Royal Scotsman won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood. He was the favourite and set a new course record. It was a fourth win in the race for trainer Paul Cole. He is out of a fast mare Enrol. The horse is bred for a mile. There are good races on the horizon such as the Morny and potentially York. Jim Crowley was unlucky with his draw and got bumped. If the gap had closed, Crowley would have kicked himself for not going. Paul and Oliver Cole are partners in training. They have had two or three great horses. Their first winner was Nomination in 1985.
Warren Point won the Coral Kincsem Handicap at Goodwood. Frankie Dettori's Blue Trail finished second. The Great Voltigeur entry won by a neck. The winner was three and a quarter lengths clear of the beaten 3-1 favourite Migdam. Charlie Appleby won Wednesday's opener with Secret State. He fielded three horses in the near-10 furlong contest.
Sparkling Beauty won the Tatler EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes at Newbury. She was ridden by Rossa Ryan and won by 3.5 lengths. Richard Hughes entered her in the Moyglare. He will get the team together and have a chat. He would have been disappointed if she had been beaten here. The horse is not fast but she has lovely pace. It is possible she will run a mile and 10 furlongs next year.
Hollie Doyle won the Qatar Nassau Stakes on Prairie Falcon. Prairie Falcons won a handicap race. The horse was trained by Michael Dods. X J Rascal finished second and Surely Not third. The winning owner Terry Holdcroft kept the colt. He made around 14,000gns. It will be a nice three-year-old. His previous races were respectable. Hollie had trouble pulling Prairie Falcon up.
Get Ahead is trainer Clive Cox's 10th Qatar Goodwood Festival winner. Silky Wilkie was second and Kape Moss was third. The daughter of Showcasing quickened smartly from off the pace under Adam Kirby to score by two lengths. The horse was bred at Whitsbury Manor Stud. Sam Hoskins of Hot To Trot Racing is over the moon. He hopes his horse will get full black type one day. It is great for the syndicate to have a winner at Goodwoods. They want more to come. "The year is not over yet and we'll find one more winner."
