Governor’s Plate & Ruby Chappell Memorial Preview

Over $115,000 will be paid out over 16 harness races at Summerside Raceway on Saturday. Four Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old colts are on the card. Two splits are for the A Division, and the other two are for the B Division. The final and consolation for the Ruby Chappell Memorial and the Governor’s Plate are also set to run on Saturday.

RUBY CHAPPELL MEMORIAL MARES OPEN FINAL – $6,000

  1. Plain Jane (6-1)
  2. Acefortyfour Dome (4-1)
  3. Dollys Sky (10-1)
  4. Dreamfair Zenfire (7-2)
  5. Ill Tell Me Ma (8-1)
  6. Sugar Bowl (3-1)
  7. Better Be In Love (12-1)

Acefortyfour Dome (Up The Credit) had the fastest elimination time of 1:55.1. The six-year-old mare has made 94 starts and visited the winner’s circle on 27 occasions. She has made seven starts in 2023 and only finished outside the top three once. Jason Hughes swept the eliminations and has decided to jump aboard Acefortyfour Dome. With a 4-1 morning line, odds could also show some value at the betting windows.

My second choice is the other Jason Hughes entry, Sugar Bowl (Sweet Lou). She won her elimination in 1:56.1 and had a closing quarter time of 28.4 seconds. The four-year-old mare has made 40-lifetime starts and has won 9 times. Sugar Bowl earned a new lifetime mark of 1:53.2 earlier this summer at Charlottetown Driving Park. Adam Merner will jump aboard while Hughes is on his other entry.

The rail horse, Share The Moment (Control The Moment), is the morning line odds favourite at 5-2. The five-year-old pacing mare finished second behind AceFortyfour Dome in the elimination. She has won 20-lifetime wins and now has earned over $100,000 in her racing career. Share The Moment has only one win on the year but could add to that total on Saturday.

Trey’s Picks: 3-7-1

GOVERNOR’S PLATE FINAL – $35,000

  1. American Risk (6-1)
  2. Rollwithhottytoddy (8-1)
  3. Twin B Tuffenuff (3-1)
  4. Matticulous Gb (7-2)
  5. Batter up Hanover (10-1)
  6. Stash It Away (4-1)
  7. Roll Em (5-2)
  8. Vino Louie (12-1)

Hard to bet against the “new, and I mean new!” track record holder, Roll Em (Time To Roll). His 1:51.1 mile time made history at Summerside Raceway. His personal best time is 1:49.1 was achieved last year at Sciot Downs. The five-year-old geldings made 69 lifetime starts and have won 22 times. Roll Em has earned over $369,000 in his career and will look to add another $17,500 on Saturday. Will we see a new track record?

Meticulous GB (Hasty Hall) won the second elimination in 1:53.1 and earned his second win of the year. The mile time is now its best of 2023, and we will look to expand on the performance. He now has 34 wins in 109-lifetime starts. The eight-year-old gelding has a lifetime mark of 1:49.1 which he achieved at Woodbine Mohawk Park. With a lot of money likely being thrown toward Roll Em, Matticulous GB could have some value come post-time.

Twin B Tuffenuff (Rock N Roll Heaven) has yet to win this year but has visited the winner’s circle 29 times in his career. His lifetime mark 1:49.4 puts him right up with the rest of the field. He has earned over $634,000 over 151-lifetime starts. Although he has yet to win this year, he has finished in the top three in 75% of his starts.

Trey’s Picks: 7-4-3
