Gulfstream Park: Friday Racing Preceeds Kentucky Derby Prep

The card ahead of the Fountain of Youth Kentucky Derby prep features a slew of claimers and maidens. The stars will be on full display at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.

The Fountain of Youth Stakes on Saturday seems to go largely through Forte who enters the race as the defending 2 year old champion and is undefeated in 4 career starts. The record includes a wire to wire win over the Gulfstream Park dirt.

Fountain of Youth Possible Upsetters

The rest of the field appears to be up against it, but there are a couple of interesting players that could play spoiler.

• Shadow Dragon stretched out in the Holy Bull at Gulfstream and came flying home late on a track that can often be difficult to make up ground. If he can be a bit closer in the 2nd start at 2 turns he could be a threat to upset at 12-1.
• Blazing Sevens was in the conversation as a 2 year old, but hasn’t been seen since November. He’s been consistent and fast on the workout tab of late and could be a logical upsetter.
• Mage is unproven with a win in his debut as his only race. That said the speed figures fit and a step forward here could make him impossible.
• Rocket Can won the Holy Bull and has to be considered a threat here.

• #6 EL SEGUNDO (9-2) comes into the race in really good form.

• #6 CAMILLA (3-1) isn't without hope. She projects to sit mid pack and come with one run.
• #1 YOOOU KNOW (7-2) has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts and looks to be the class of the field.
