Hartslief: Soweto Grand Prix ticks all the boxes
Bobby Hartslief is putting together a new bid for the return of Formula 1 to South Africa. He saved the South African Grand Prix in the early 1980s. The event is proposed on a street circuit to be constructed at the Nasrec showgrounds adjacent to Soweto, south of Johannesburg.
A Grand Prix in Soweto is set to become reality. Nasrec showgrounds ticks all the right boxes. The adjacent FNB stadium hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer finals. It will cost money to host a Grand prix at Nas rec.
Hartslief wants to organize a Soweto Grand Prix around the Johannesburg Nasrec showgrounds. Bobby Hartsleif organised and promoted five South African Formula 1 Grands Prix at Kyalami between 1981 and 1985. He managed the affairs of three-time Formula One world champion Nelson Piquet. Hartlei later designed and built the Phakisa Freeway at Welkom.
