Hawks vs Nets Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

With Dejounte Murray facing an opportunistic matchup in today's rematch against Brooklyn, Tom Oldfield expects Atlanta's star guard to shine at the Barclays Center. Read more in our Hawks vs. Nets betting picks.

Less than 48 hours after getting blown out at Barclays Center, the Atlanta Hawks get a shot at payback against the Brooklyn Nets this afternoon.

The Nets snapped out of a recent funk with a 124-97 win in Thursday’s matchup, closing the gap on the Hawks to just three games in the standings.

That setback dampened some of the optimism around Atlanta’s play since losing Trae Young to a finger injury, but the visitors are still only slight underdogs in the NBA odds as they look to improve on a shaky 11-17 road record.

Hawks vs Nets predictions

For the next few weeks, Dejounte Murray is the undisputed main man for the Atlanta Hawks and he was one of the few bright sparks on Thursday, finishing with 28 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

But a closer look reveals a -22 in his 32 minutes, and the visitors need even more from Murray as the play-in race tightens up. I’m counting on him to put together a monster response today — and the Over on his points + assists is an attractive prop.

While Bogdan Bogdanovic and Jalen Johnson have shown they can handle some of the offensive burden, Murray needs to be the head of the Atlanta snake as Quin Synder’s men try to replicate their recent free-scoring victories over the Orlando Magic and Utah Jazz.

Murray has gone past this number in two of his past three games, including double-digit assists against the Magic and Jazz. While the Brooklyn Nets have a pool of talented wing defenders, he should be able to attack the matchups against Dennis Schroder and backup Dennis Smith Jr.

He made 11 of his 19 shots last time out and could see an even bigger volume here if the Hawks get off to another cold-shooting start. They trailed 34-16 after the first quarter on Thursday.

An improved Atlanta effort at Barclays Center starts with Murray being the best player on the court, so I’m taking the Over on his P&A prop here.

My best bet: Dejounte Murray Over 30.5 points + assists (-120 at bet365)

Hawks vs Nets same-game parlay

Dejounte Murray Over 21.5 points and assists

Nic Claxton Under 9.5 rebounds

Nets team total Under 112.5 rebounds

Nic Claxton has fallen short of 10 boards in each of his last four games and in six of his past seven outings. Though the Nets center posted double-digit rebounds in the two meetings earlier this season, he was kept in check by the Atlanta frontcourt on Thursday, ending up with only eight boards.

Meanwhile, I’m expanding my SGP with the Under on this Brooklyn points tally. Sure, the Nets shook loose for 124 points two days ago, but they had fallen short of 100 points in four of their prior five contests.

The hosts are also without Cam Thomas again today and I don’t see a repeat of Thursday’s scorching 22-for-46 shooting from beyond the arc.

Hawks vs Nets spread and Over/Under analysis

The sportsbooks haven’t overreacted to Brooklyn’s easy win earlier in the week and I’m fully onboard with that. The Nets are just 1.5-point favorites, in part due to their patchy 14-17 mark at home.

The Hawks have lost three of the past four meetings and the last four matchups at Barclays Center, but I’m leaning towards the visitors’ more balanced offense, with De’Andre Hunter and Kobe Bufkin providing a boost off the bench.

The Under is 8-2 in the Nets’ last 10 games and I’m predicting a much tighter battle than we saw on Thursday. The hosts have cashed the first-half Under in 25 of their last 40 contests, and the Hawks had previously hit the Under in four straight games before folding under a barrage of Brooklyn triples.

That feels like the safer play, with the visitors surely feeling Snyder’s frustration after the defensive no-show earlier in the week.

The Nets’ extended rough stretch has made a spot in the play-in tournament no sure thing. Zooming out, they’ve lost 48 of their past 77 games. Find more NBA betting trends for Hawks vs. Nets.
