Heat vs Hawks Prediction, Picks & Player Props (1/16/23)

After an up and down start to 2023, the Atlanta Hawks ended last week by recording back-to-back wins for the first time since mid-December. This afternoon, they will look for only their second three-game win streak of the season as they host the Miami Heat.

This matchup is the second of four regular-season matchups between these Southeast Division rivals, and you can catch the action from State Farm Arena at 3:30 pm ET on TNT.

After going L-W-L-W-L in their first five games of the new year, the Hawks finally strung together consecutive wins on Friday and Saturday, winning 113-111 at Indiana on Friday and 114-103 at Toronto on Saturday.

Can they keep things going at home against the Heat? Miami is looking to keep a little run going as well, coming in with three straight wins, the latter two against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Will Atlanta Continue to Struggle to Beat Winning Teams?

Atlanta’s win over the Pacers on Friday was a notable one, given that the Hawks went in five games under .500 on the road and had lost by 15 at Indiana on December 27.

It’s also notable as it pertains to today’s game because of Atlanta’s record against teams who are currently .500 or better. For the season, the Hawks are 10-12 SU and 11-11 ATS against teams who enter today .500 or better.

However, they do have better results against such teams at home, coming in at 5-4 SU and 6-3 ATS, compared to 5-8 SU and ATS on the road.

One of those home SU and ATS losses came against the Heat on November 27, a 106-98 loss. In that game, Trae Young was 1 of 8 from three and 4 of 16 overall from the field, while Bam Adebayo had 32 points, one of his seven 30-point games this season.

The Hawks were favored in that loss, but as a home underdog, Atlanta is 2-3 SU and 3-2 ATS against teams who are currently .500 or better.

The back-to-back road wins were certainly needed for Atlanta, but home is where the Hawks have been better over the balance of the season.

They’re only 8-12 ATS at home, but they are 11-9 SU, compared to 9-14 ATS and 10-13 SU on the road.

Plus odds for Young to get 10+ assists? You don’t have to tell me twice. He has had 10+ assists nine times in 16 home games this season, and he had 14 assists in the first meeting between these two teams earlier this season.
