History of Horse Racing in 100 Objects: And the rest nowhere

Eclipse was a great horse who died of colic in 1789. His bones were reassembled and put on display at the Royal Veterinary College in Hertfordshire. He won 18 races in a row and was named after Dennis O'Kelly, who bet on him. He called out ‘E Eclipse first and the rest nowhere’. The horse was born in the light and shade of a solar eclipse. It was the first race he had run. After his death, his bones had to be periodically stripped down and transported around the country. Some of the bones lost and replaced by suitable bones from other horses.
