Holiday Bowl watch: Assessing candidates from ACC, Pac-12

The CFP top 25 rankings were released Tuesday afternoon. The Holiday Bowl CEO Mark Neville assesses the rankings. He counts how many ACC and Pac-12 teams are in the top 10. Neville thinks there will be two top-25 teams in San Diego. Notre Dame is an independent, but for bowl distribution purposes it rides with the ACC. With a solid finish, the Fighting Irish could find their way to SanDiego.

The ACC and Pac-12 bowl officials are considering which two teams to invite on Selection Sunday (Dec. 4). The game is on Wednesday, December 28 at 5 p.m. (Ch. 5/69) at Petco Park.

There are other New Year's Six games: Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl and Rose Bowl.

The Holiday Bowl gets the second pick after the Alamo Bowl in the Pac-12. The Gator Bowl, Cheez-It Bowl and Holiday would like to take N.C. State. Syracuse has some appeal because of its high-scoring profile. Oregon State has never played in a Holiday. The Alamadow is almost certain to get one of the three teams. It's possible that the Holiday will choose Utah or Oregon. They played a game in 2018. If the season ended today, Clemson would be in playoff.

No. 23 Oregon State plays at Washington at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

No. 17 North Carolina at Virginia is at 9 a.m., No. 20 Syracuse at Pitt is 12:30 p.M., and No 4 Clemson at Notre Dame is 4:: 30 p., NBC. No 21 Wake Forest at No 22 North Carolinium St. is 5 p,m.
