Horse Power: Inspiral to win Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket

INSPIRAL can give retiring Frankie Dettori a final victory in the Virgin Sun Chariot Stakes (British Champions Series) (Fillies & Mares) (3.15pm) at Newmarket on Saturday afternoon.

Having been disappointed in bidding to land a final victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and at ParisLonghcamp last weekend he can grab just a second victory in the Group One feature at Headquarters before he hangs up his riding boots at the end of the year. It could also be the popular Italian’s 500th success at Newmarket’s two tracks as he landed a 499th success last weekend. Strangely Dettori has only won the Sun Chariot once before back when partnering the Luca Cumani-trained Red Slippers to glory in Sheikh Mohammed’s old purple and white colours. But this time the John and Thady Gosden-trained Inspiral should prove too good for her rivals and give Dettori another success at the top level.

The talented Cheveley Park Stud-owned daughter of Frankel is supremely talented when on her game. She was unbeaten as a juvenile, culminating in victory in the Group One bet365 over course and distance at Newmarket in October 2021. She missed her shot at Classic glory last May, but was superb when winning the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot before a shock defeat to Prosperous Voyage in the Falmouth Stakes. She was beaten back at the Royal meeting when behind Triple Time in the Queen Anne Stakes and had no answer to the mighty Paddington in soft conditions in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood when she tried to take Aidan O’Brien’s multiple Group One star early and ended up last of the five runners. But she was impressive when landing the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard Jaques Les Marious for a second successive season at Deauville last time. On that form she will be hard to beat and O’Brien’s perennial bridesmaid Meditate may follow her home.

Heather Main’s ZOULU CHIEF can bring up a hat-trick of wins in the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes (GBB Race) (2.05pm). The two-year-old has won three of his six career starts including a wide-margin success at Windsor in August and another victory in a Nursery at York later that month. Zoulu Chief can go in again in this lucrative six-furlong contest.

Willie Haggas’ QUEEN EMMA – also set to be ridden by Dettori – can win the British EBF 40th Anniversary Premier Fillies’ Handicap (2.40pm). The three-year-old daughter of Saxon Warrior won at Lingfield and at Goodwood before being second, only beaten a neck by Mistressofillusion, at Doncaster last month. Queen Emma remains a progressive filly and can go in again ahead of chiefly Rae Guest’s course and distance winner Divina Grace.

Mark Rimell’s RED MAIDS can land a third win in her last four starts in the Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places Fillies’ Handicap (5pm).

Others who can win at Headquarters are Kevin Ryan’s SISYPHEAN in the Virgin Bet Best Odds Daily British EBF Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (3.50pm); the Roger Varian-trained RED DANIELLE in the opener, the British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap (1.30pm); and Godolphin’s MILITARY LEADER, from the Charlie Appleby stable under Ryan Moore, in the Virgin Bet Daily Price Boost Maiden Stakes (GBB Race) (4.25pm).

At Ascot JUAN LES PINS can win the Group Three John Guest Racing Bengough Stakes (3pm). Mick Appleby’s six-year-old has been running superbly well in the top sprint handicaps this season without winning and now steps up into Group Three company. After victory at Nottingham in June, he was third in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, 10th in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood before finishing third and second in two Listed events at Newmarket and York respectively. He may be ready to return to winning ways despite the step-up in class.

Haggas’ course and distance winner AL AASY can score again in the Group Three Jim Barry Cumberland Lodge Stakes (2.25pm). The Shadwell Estate-owned six-year-old appears as good as ever and following a low-key return to action at Newmarket he won a Listed event at Newbury and the Group Three Rose Of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock Park in August before before just touched off by Adelaide River – giving him 11lbs – in a similar contest at Leopardstown last month. He looks to have his ideal conditions and is in such good form he can score again ahead of fellow Shadwell-owned colt Israr, from the John and Thady Gosden stable.

Liverpool FC fan and trainer Karl Burke’s KORKER may land another win in the Listed Blue Eagle Rous Stakes (1.50pm) following his back-to-form victory at Beverley last month.

Stuart Williams’ QUINAULT has been one of the stars of the season and can land another victory in the Howden Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap) (3.35pm). The three-year-old has won an astonishing eight times in nine runs this season, with his only defeat coming over course and distance at the Shergar Cup in August, when he finished third. He won over seven furlongs back at Ascot last time and he looks like he can bring up an incredible ninth win of the year.

Others who can win in Berkshire are John Quinn’s BREEGE in the Listed McGee Group British EBF Stakes (Registered As October Stakes) (Fillies & Mares) (4.10pm); and another Mick Appleby runner, BEDFORD FLYER in the finale, the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity Handicap (4.45pm).

At Redcar Richard Hannon’s LOVE BILLY BOY may provide something of a shock win in the Listed William Hill Two Year Old Trophy (2.45pm). The Invincible Army colt has only won once in five career starts, back on his debut at Musselburgh. But he has run well in defeat, finishing third three times on his last three outings. A chance is taken he can get his head back in front ahead of the better-fancied Dragon Leader and Kylian.

Others who can win at Redcar are Richard Fahey’s RAMAZAN in the Listed Racing TV EBF Stallions Guisborough Stakes (3.55pm); the Alice Haynes-trained course and distance scorer MAYSONG in the SDDE Smith Group Straight-Mile Series Final Handicap (4.30pm); David O’Meara’s ANIMATO in the Market Cross Jewellers Handicap (5.05pm); and ROSE KING – from the Stuart Dixon stable – in the Watch Race Replays On racingtv.com Handicap (5.35pm).
