Horse racing predictions: Chelmsford and Southwell

The cold weather continues to wreak havoc with the racing calendar across Britain and Ireland. Ffos Las (12.38-3.48) is expected to get the go-ahead. All-weather racing is scheduled at Southwell (2.03-5.05) and Chelmsford (5:30-8.30). Exeter and Naas have been abandoned. Thursday’s nap includes the final runner of Newmarket trainer Charlie Wall”s career as he signs off on more than three decades as a licence holder.

Charlie Wall's 36-year training career comes to an end at Chelmsford City. Spit Spot will be ridden by Hayley Turner. Last time Spitspot finished second to Mountain Road. Pons Aelius came third. The horse that finished third was bypassed by the front pair in the home straight.

SELFISH BRIAN has finished fourth on both starts for new trainer Nigel Tinkler. He is interested in getting a first crack at this distance. Faye McManoman’s partner could find optimal conditions on his maiden visit to Southwell.

Politics made his stable bow for Mick Appleby at Wolverhampton recently. He had his only previous success in a Sandown maiden in August 2020. Politics finished fifth at Doncaster this September. He is off the same mark now and should take advantage soon for a yard that does well with this type of horse.
