Horse racing predictions: Longchamp

There’s a real bonus this weekend as the ITV Racing cameras travel to Longchamp for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the most prestigious middle-distance contest on turf.

ITV is not only covering the feature race, where there is plenty of British and Irish interest, they are also showing three other Group 1 contests, including the Prix Marcel Boussac and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium).

The terrestrial coverage on ITV takes place between 1.00-3.30pm and our tipster has selections for all four races.

1.15 Longchamp – Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac Criterium des Pouliches (Group 1, 1m)

All eyes have to be on Andre Fabre’s runners in the two-year-old races on Arc weekend and he looks to have a very smart filly on his hands in RACLETTE. The daughter of Frankel is unbeaten in two starts and was very impressive last time out over a mile at Chantilly.

Fabre has three runners in this race and jockey Maxime Guyon has opted for the filly at the top of the racecard. The ground will not be a problem for Raclette as she clearly acts on a surface with plenty of juice in it, and she looks set for a very exciting future.

Selection: Raclette @ 5/4 with Paddy Power

1.50 Longchamp – Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium) (7f)

This is a fascinating clash between some of the best British and French two-year-olds. Ancient Rome and Accakaba clearly could be anything as they have recorded seven wins between them this season.

Hugo Palmer is represented by EBRO RIVER and has a great chance of ensuring some British success at the meeting. The Keeneland Phoenix Stakes winner at the Curragh has proved his class at Group 1 level. He has much more experience than many of these and that should count for a lot in this race.

Selection: Ebro River @ 2/1 with Paddy Power

3.05 Longchamp – Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (1m 4f)

The Arc always produces a great mix of talented three-year-olds and older horses who are proven at this level. There is no shortage of talent among the former generation this year as ADAYAR, Hurricane Lane and Snowball all line up with one or more Classics to their name.

William Buick has chosen to ride Adayar over Hurricane Lane and that is a big clue to the pecking order in Charlie Appleby’s stable. The Frankel colt was very impressive at Epsom and added more Group 1 glory at Ascot in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes.

Golden Horn was the last Derby winner to score in the Arc in the same season in 2015. Adayar looks set to replicate that achievement in a strong renewal of the middle-distance championship.

3.50 Longchamp – Prix de l'Opera Longines (Group 1, 1m 2f)

JOAN OF ARC has already travelled to France and won this season. The Ballydoyle-trained daughter of Galileo claimed the French Oaks (Prix de Diane Longines) in a 17-runner field.

Aidan O’Brien’s runner was disappointing last time out over this course and distance but should be forgiven for that performance as she has had a fine campaign. The draw has been kind to her as she has been handed stall four and she has the benefit of Ryan Moore in the saddle. The Irish horse has an excellent chance.

Selection: Joan Of Arc @ 5/1 with Paddy Power
