QUICK CHANGE showed a good attitude to make all on her final start of last year at Haydock, digging deep when closed down late on to get the verdict by a neck. That was a career-best effort and she is better judged on that form than when down the field at Newcastle last time. She is likely to strip fitter with that first outing for nine months under her belt and a British Horseracing Authority (BHA) mark of 79 still looks workable judged on the strength of her Haydock form (runner-up went on to complete a hat-trick).

THE LINE showed plenty of ability when finishing third on his debut at Ascot a few weeks ago, passing the post only three lengths behind the winner despite looking in need of the experience (ran green early on). That form sets a good standard in this line-up and there should be lots more to come from him with the run under his belt. A few interesting newcomers feature among the opposition in this novice event, but The Line rates a solid selection to get off the mark at the second attempt.

MONDAMMEJ shaped as if back in form when finishing fourth over this course and distance last week, keeping on well to be beaten only two and a quarter lengths. He is 2lb lower in the weights today and starting to look dangerously well handicapped judged on the pick of his form from last year. After all, it was only in July that he filled the runner-up spot in a listed race on the Knavesmire, so this could be a good chance for him to resume winning ways if building on the promise of last time.

MIMIKYU proved herself a smart filly when winning last year’s Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster, hitting the front over a furlong out and keeping going well from there to land the spoils by two and three-quarter lengths with a bit in hand. This will be her first start since disappointing in the Fillies’ & Mares’ Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day, but she has a significant class edge over her eight rivals in this Group 3 and it looks an excellent opportunity for her to make a winning return despite having to concede 7lb all round.

VERDANSK made an encouraging start to life in handicaps when finishing third at Newmarket three weeks ago, making good headway before the combination of testing conditions and a seven-month absence seemed to tell late on. Beaten five lengths at the line, he certainly shaped better than the bare result and there should be races to be won with him from an opening BHA mark of 79 on that evidence. Today could well be the day for him to get off the mark now back on better ground with his reappearance under his belt.

MAXIMILIAN CAESAR returned from seven months off (gelded in the interim) with an easy win at Doncaster last time, powering clear in the style of a useful performer. He was never far away and gradually put his rivals to the sword after moving to the front three furlongs out, ultimately landing the spoils eight and a half lengths with plenty in hand. The manner of that victory suggests he was full value for a 9lb rise in the weights and another big run seems assured in his follow-up bid.

YORKSHIRE was unable to justify short odds on his handicap debut at Southwell earlier this month, but he still produced a career-best effort to fill the runner-up spot, looking the likeliest winner for a long way (hit a low of 1.13 in-running on the Betfair Exchange) before being collared close to home. He remains with potential after just four starts and gets plenty of weight here from his older rivals, so a 4lb higher mark might not be enough to prevent him from getting his head back in front.
