How Bruins star collected on bet with Capitals’ Tom Wilson

Tom Wilson and David Pastrnak are at it again.

The strange bromance/rivalry between the Washington Capitals intimidator and Bruins’ sniper first appeared during the NHL’s COVID bubble in 2020 when Pastrnak inexplicably tweeted:

Wilson isn’t a bad goal-scorer. Wilson had 21 goals in 68 games when Pastrnak tweeted that in July of 2020. But there’s a good reason that Wilson wasn’t a participant in the skills competition of the NHL All-Star game.

“I just felt like it. I wanted to say it. That was my opinion,” Pastrnak said at the time. “Nobody hacked my computer. It was own fingers that typed that in. It was a little side bet with me and Tom from back in the day.”

All of this came just a few months after the two men fought in a game earlier that season.

Pastrnak didn’t reveal the specifics of the bet then, but peeled back the curtain a little more on the podcast “Spittin’ Chiclets.”

“I obviously lost a bet, okay, which I was really confident going into,” Pastrnak said. “And the bet was basically, if I lose, I’m gonna make this tweet. And if I win, me and Tom Wilson, because we played the round robin, right? We played against Washington. So, this bet happened before round robin. And if I would have won, we would drop gloves and basically, I would throw a punch and knock the (fragrant expletive) out of Tommy. That’s why he was saying, ‘I knew I was going to have to win this bet.’

“He gave it (his) all and he beat me by a mile. Not really gonna get into what the bet was, but he beat me by a mile,” Pastrnak added. “So I tweeted out and it was kinda funny and it’s crazy. I still get the tweets to this day, you know, every goal he scored, I just get mentioned all night and that I was right. So yeah, I got absolutely roasted in that bet.”

On Saturday, Pastrnak and Team McDavid beat Wilson and Team MacKinnon in the semifinals of the All-Star Game’s 3-on-3 Tournament with Pastrnak scoring one goal in his team’s comeback rally and one in the shootout.

Afterward, Wilson posted a picture on his Instagram story of himself and Pastrnak in the postgame handshake line with the caption:

“I think you’re the best scorer in the league @davidpastrnak”

Wilson and the Capitals are at TD Garden to face the Bruins on Saturday.
