Pub punters from Stockport won £3m in three weeks thanks to a winning streak on the horses. A new book lays bare some of the secrets of their betting coups.
£3 million in 3 weeks was won by The Squirrel Syndicate on the Tote's Scoop6 pool bet. The syndicate won the money on a single ticket. They made donations to a children's cancer charity. The book A Gambler's Tale tells of their story. It is a collaboration between Totes and The Three Tunnes pub in Hazel Grove. A donation from signed copies of the book goes to the charity, The Thomas Russell Cancer Trust Fund. There were only 21,340 tickets left in the Scooop 6 pool at the start of it. Only 8 tickets were left alive in it by the final leg.
The Squirrel won £3 million in three weeks. The group won a record amount of money in 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2017. The book The Squirrel: A Gambler's Tale by Richard Brocklebank and Charles Yates is available online.
