How Italian soccer led Mick Gangemi to the Pinnacles of WA Racing
Michele Gangemi, 99, is the oldest member of Perth Racing. He used to come to the races every Saturday but now he comes once a month. His family started a racing dynasty by sparking the interest of his children and grandchildren. It all started with a visit by Italian soccer players AS Roma to Perth in the 1960s. The Roma Cup was created in their honour. In 2017, the Gangemis lifted the trophy when the legendary Rock Magic won the $250,000 Group Three event. The following year, they scored a Roma cup trifecta with Rock, Battle Hero and Durrendal.
