Indiana football is set for a Black Out on Saturday night as it hosts Akron under the Memorial Stadium lights.

The Hoosiers, which will debut and wear new alternate black uniforms, are looking to improve to 2-2 overall with Big Ten play looming in Week 5.

All-time series record:Indiana leads the all-time series 3-0 over Akron. The Hoosiers' last win over the Zips came in 2010, a 35-20 home victory under then-head coach Bill Lynch.

Injury notes: Indiana coach Tom Allen provided a brief injury update earlier this week. Starting offensive lineman Matthew Bedford, who was listed as questionable but played in Week 3, missed practice last week, but the fifth-year veteran is making progress. In IU's Week 3 loss to Louisville, starting receiver EJ Williams Jr and quarterback Dexter Williams IIwere ruled out and were not available to play. Starting cornerback Nic Toomer was listed as questionable, but he also did not play.

Notables:

- Akron is 1-2 overall on the season, losing to Temple in Week 1 and Kentucky in Week 3. The Zips' lone win came against FCS opponent Morgan State in Week 2, a narrow 24-21 home victory.

Indiana will debut and wear new black alternate uniforms on Saturday, dubbed 'Ghost uniforms' and created in partnership with Adidas. The new alternates feature IU's crimson helmet with a white block-I logo, black tops with crimson and cream lettering, black bottoms with cream and crimson piping, and black accessories.

-Against MAC opponents, the Hoosiers hold a 39-9-1 all-time record. Indiana has played 11 of the 12 current MAC football programs, with Buffalo the lone exception.

Indiana coach Tom Allen is two wins away from breaking into IU's top-five winningest coaches in program history. His 31 wins currently ranks sixth-most of any IU coach.

- Indiana's defense ranks top-50 nationally in passing yards allowed (19th; 165.3), red-zone defense (27th; 71.4%), total yards allowed (38th; 298.3) and points per game allowed (39th; 17.0).

- Akron redshirt senior quarterback DJ Irons is off to a slow start this season, but he was named third-team All-MAC in 2022. Irons has completed 65.2 percent of his passes for 392 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
