How to Watch the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs today

Just a few series are left in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with two unlikely Game 7′s on tap for Sunday night.

(WC2) Florida Panthers vs. (1) Boston Bruins (Game 7)

When it looked they were down and out heading into game five, the Panthers clawed their way back into this series, forcing a seventh game against the team that posted the best single-season in the history of the NHL.

After their wild overtime win in Boston, the Cats survived another wild contest on Friday night. Game six went back and forth, with neither team able to gain an advantage. The Bruins took a 5-4 lead around the halfway mark of the third period, Florida responded with three unanswered goals to steal a 7-5 win.

There is no question that Matthew Tkachuk has been a difference in this series, including a pair of goals on Friday. He will try and help the Panthers win a Game 7, something the franchise has not done since their trip to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996.

On the other side, the Bruins have fallen in their last two seventh-game matchups, with their last win coming against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Round 1 back in 2019.

(WC1) Seattle Kraken vs. (1) Colorado Avalanche (Game 7)

While the Kraken came into this series as the underdogs, they had a chance to bury the defending Stanley Cup Champions on home ice Friday night. However, a pair of goals from Colorado’s Artturi Lehkonen, and a solid all-around team effort, has pushed this series the distance.

To say it is unfamiliar for the Kraken, as a team, to be in this situation is an understatement, given that this is the franchise’s first playoff series. However, with veterans like Brandon Tanev and Jordan Eberle, along with former Cup winners like Yanni Gourde, Justin Schultz and Vince Dunn, there is experience in Seattle that can help them do the thing on Sunday.

For the Avalanche, while most of the core has been together for years now, Game 7′s have not been too kind to them. Losses to the Dallas Stars in the 2020 Western Conference Finals, and in the second round in 2019 against the San Jose Sharks still haunt this group. In fact, since the franchise moved to Denver from Quebec, the Avs are just 4-8 in do-or-die games, with their last win a seventh game coming all the way back in 2002.
