The US Open gets underway on Monday, with Flushing Meadows hosting the world's best tennis stars for two weeks of scintillating on court action in New York City

The US Open is the final tennis grand slam of the year

The final tennis major of the year takes place across the next fortnight, with the US Open taking place at Flushing Meadows in New York.

Carlos Alcaraz will be hoping to win back-to-back majors following success at Wimbledon last month while simultaneously seeking to defend the title he won in 2022 for his first major. Meanwhile, Iga Swiatek will be hoping to improve on a disappointing Wimbledon quarter final exit and back up her world number one credentials by defending her title.

There will be some notable absentees from the tournament, with Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios and Emma Raducanu all missing out on through injury. However, it will still be a strong cast-list, with Novak Djokovic the second seed in the men's competition and the likes of Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur in attendance.

Andy Murray will be at the tournament, ten years on from his first ever grand slam win at the same venue in 2013. The Brit is unseeded for the tournament but will have hopes of progressing into the second week on best surface historically. British hopes are most likely to be held in the hands of Cameron Norrie, with the 16th seed expected to bounce back after a disappointing Wimbledon.

US hopes are stronger on the women's side of the draw, with Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff both seeded in the top eight for the tournament. Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe will also be contenders in the men's draw, but will need to cause an upset in order to taste success.
