How will WFAN replace Yankees reporter Sweeny Murti?

That’s because long-time New York Yankees reporter Sweeny Murti announced earlier this month he’s leaving the station after three decades.

The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand has a beat on what WFAN’s plan could be moving forward.

It hopes to have someone who can do the post-game and be a pinch-hitter if — when? — John Sterling needs some days off. As is his nature, Sterling, 85 in July, is currently pushing to do all the games, but there is a good chance that he will change his mind when the grind of the season starts to be felt. That is why someone like Justin Shackil could be the choice for FAN. Shackil filled in for Sterling on games last year and did well. He has been working on Yankees-related shows from in-stadium to a Jomboy podcast with David Cone, while also doing boxing work for DAZN.

As for Murti, he announced his departure on , and didn’t sound like the move was his idea.

“My time at WFAN has come to an end. It was a dream job that lasted 30 years. Unfortunately, it’s time to move on.

“Along the way I was so privileged to work on the biggest events with legendary performers and personalities. The highlight of it all was spending the last 22 years talking to you about the New York Yankees.

“I tried to bring the right amounts of confidence and humility on the air. I strived to hold my own with the great host on our station and just tried to make good radio with every appearance.

“Everything good in my adult life truly began when I started as a producer at the FAN in March 1993. More good things are on the way, of that I am sure. I am eager to begin the next chapter.

“Thanks to everyone who helped to bring me here, keep me here and thrive here. Thanks to so many wonderful friends and colleagues who made going to work fun. And thanks to every one of you for listening and taking this ride with me. It has truly been my honor, and I hope you will join me on the next adventure.”
