The Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals meet at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night.

The Hurricanes suffered a 6-2 loss against the New York Rangers on Saturday as the Over connected, snapping a 7-game win streak, and a 10-game run with at least one point.

The Capitals were surprised by the San Jose Sharks on Sunday afternoon, the team’s second win in the past five contests.

Carolina topped Washington 3-2 in a shootout in Raleigh on October 31 in the first of three regular-season meetings.

Will the Hurricanes blow into the nation’s capital, or will the Caps be able to veto the visitors? We’ll discuss in our NHL betting picks for Hurricanes vs. Capitals on Tuesday, February 14.

Hurricanes vs Capitals best odds

Hurricanes vs Capitals picks and predictions

The Hurricanes look to make it 2-for-2 against the Capitals in the season series. It will be the lone meeting at Capital One Arena this season, too.

Carolina has posted wins in seven of the past eight games, and the Hurricanes have picked up at least one point in 10 of the past 11 outings. They haven’t lost on the road in regulation since January 3, which was also against the Rangers, the team that ended the point streak last time out.

Washington has had its problems on home ice lately, winning just once in the past four tries, and that was a narrow 3-2 shootout win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on January 26. The Caps are just 2-4-2 in the previous eight skates on home ice, too.

The Capitals have been having some trouble lighting the lamp lately, and that isn’t expected to change against projected Hurricanes starting backstop Frederik Andersen (11-4-0, 2.65 GAA).

Look for a lower-scoring game in this undercard for this weekend’s Outdoor Stadium Series game in Raleigh.

My best bet: Under 6 (-110 at FanDuel)

Hurricanes vs Capitals moneyline analysis

The Hurricanes have picked up four consecutive victories on the road, while going 12-1-5 in the past 18 games overall dating back to November 12.

As a road favorite, Carolina has covered the puck line in three straight, and it has covered the puck line in four of the past seven games overall when favored.

The Hurricanes have won 15 of the past 17 games against teams with a winning overall record, while Carolina has won four in a row on the road. The Hurricanes are 38-18 in the past 56 games inside the Metropolitan Division, too, which equates to a .679 winning percentage.

Washington suffered the 4-1 loss on home ice against San Jose, and it is just 2-5 in the past seven when playing the third game of a 3-in-4 (three games in four days) situation.

The Capitals have owned the Hurricanes over the years, going 13-5 in the past 18 meetings in the nation’s capital, while going 5-2 in the past seven overall against the Canes.

However, Carolina won a 3-2 shootout on Oct. 31 in the only meeting this season, and that’s the slight lean here as moderate favorites. Toss in Carolina with the Under for a nice parlay opportunity, too.

Hurricanes vs Capitals Over/Under analysis

The Hurricanes head into this game with two or more goals in 24 straight games dating back to a 1-0 win in Detroit on December 13.

The Over has dominated for Carolina, going 12-4 in the past 16 games overall, while cashing at a 6-2 clip in the past eight meetings. Carolina has also cashed in nine of the past 10 games against the Metropolitan Division, too.

The above information conveys a little bit of risk in taking the Under. However, the Hurricanes are rested, last playing Saturday, and the Under is 5-2 in thir past seven when playing on two days of rest.

Washington has hit the Under at a 4-1-1 clip in the past six games overall, while going 5-0-1 in the past six home contests. The Under is 9-4 in their past 13 Metropolitan Division games.

And while Carolina has had no trouble lighting the lamp lately, Washington is struggling tremendously. It has just three total goals in the past two games, and an average of 2.2 goals per game (GPG) across the past seven contests.
