I pulled off 480million-to-one horse racing bet and scooped $10million

A NEW Zealand punter has gone against all odds to select the correct finishing order for The TAB Everest.

The Auckland-based man miraculously predicted where each of the 12 horses in the A$20 million Everest horse race at Randwick, Sydney, would finish.

The likelihood of predicting the exact finishing order is believed to be around 480 million to one.

The punter, who requested anonymity after his staggering win, told the New Zealand Herald that he saw the free competition on the TAB website and decided to "give it a crack".

"I didn't put too much thought into my picks and just dropped the runners where I thought it could go.

"Honestly I could not believe I'd won it. I actually thought it was a hoax when they first rang me.

"I called the TAB back, and it took quite a lot of convincing before it sank in.

"To have pulled it off, winning $10 million in a free to play competition, is truly incredible for my family and I."

The Everest Mega Millions was a promotion designed to raise interest in the race and its first New Zealand representative 'I Wish I Win'.

New Zealand's 'I Wish I Win' was a favourite to win, alongside 'Think About it' and 'Private Eye'.

By selecting this trio as his top three, it seems as though the Auckland punter was playing it safe.

But, the fact that he got the next nine runners in the correct order is no less than extraordinary.

'Godolphin duo In Secret' came fourth, 'Cylinder' fifth, 'Hawaii Five Oh' sixth, 'Espiona' seventh, 'Buenos Noches' eighth, 'Shinzo' ninth, 'Overpass' tenth, 'Mazu' eleventh, with 'Alcohol Free' riding in twelfth.

The New Zealand TAB's promotion was free to account holders but entry into the competition was limited to one per person.

It has been revealed that the TAB took out insurance for the promotion on the off-chance that somebody actually predicted the finishing order.

The managing director of the TABs operator said that the punter's success has been "an amazing result.

"The Everest is the world's richest race on turf and this customer has managed to take home more than the winner's purse by pulling off one of the most impressive selecting feats we have ever seen.

"The race had over 400 million possible finish results, and he managed to nail the exact one.

"We're thrilled with the customer engagement this innovative competition was able to generate and a huge congratulations to our winner."
