The third game of the four-match Test series between India and Australia will be played in Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. India is leading the 4-match Test series by 2-0 after thrashing the Aussies with a six-wicket win in the second Test and successfully retaining the Border Gavaskar Trophy once again.

Winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first in the second Test. They ended up with a score of 263 on the board, thanks to Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb who scored 81 runs and 72 runs respectively. For the Indian side, it was Mohammed Shami who impressed by picking up 4 wickets and the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 3 wickets each. In reply, India could score only 262 runs. At 139 for 7, India were in a spot of bother, thanks to Axar Patel who stitched a partnership with the lower-order batsmen to rescue team India once again. He ended up scoring 74 runs.

Australia were bundled out for 113 in their second innings. It was once again the spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin who picked 7 wickets and 3 wickets respectively.

India’s top and middle-order batting was not up to the mark in the second Test. KL Rahul’s lean patch continued as he scored just 18 runs in two innings. His form might worry team India for the matches ahead. Lower-order batsmen along with the all-rounders are contributing with the bat, which is a good sign for the team.

India’s bowling in home conditions has been quite consistent, with spinners playing the big roles. The duo of Jadeja-Ashwin has been giving nightmares to their opponents for ages now and another such hunting was on show in the second Test as well as they shared 16 wickets between them.

Australian batters had a pretty ordinary game once again. Except for well-made fifties by Usman Khawaja and Peter Handscomb in their first innings, none of their batsmen contributed well enough.

Nathan Lyon managed to pick 7 wickets for his side, with a fifer in the first innings. Apart from him, none of their bowlers were up to their best. Todd Murphy, the young offie who impressed in the first Test, picked up 3 wickets in the second Test.
