Inside Maison Colbert: at home with the modern surrealists

Philip Colbert and Charlotte Colbert have a new home in Spitalfields, east London. The couple's union is represented by a lobster and a uterus.

Philip and Charlotte are the creative couple who designed the house. They took their designs and reinterpreted them in furniture, headboards, fabrics and decor. The Maison is an exceptionally good showcase of Charlotte's design enterprise. The Colberts drew inspiration from their visits to art houses for their vision. Angus drew from a vast black book of makers to realise the variety of material interpretations and bespoke furniture throughout the building. Charlotte plans to put into production her metalwork chairs featuring the eye. In the master bedroom, panelled in wood, the bedroom is themed in tongue-and-groove panelling with besoke beds and furnishings.
