There is a record $21.7 million purse. The field is the biggest ever to compete in the race. This year's race has attracted the highest attendance since 2012. A record amount of bets were placed on Bluegrass day 2016. Blue grass runners have won a Triple Crown race, including 13 Preakness St. and 14 Belmonts.
