Jake Muzzin is out indefinitely. Toronto will give opportunities to the players already on the roster. Frank Seravalli wrote about six potential options the Maple Leafs might look at. He suggests a seventh player as well. All of them would be expensive. The GM Kyle Dubas will look for a long-term solution.

John Klingberg is an offensively-gifted defenseman who plays big minutes for the Anaheim Ducks. He's got eight points in 16 games and is worth $7 million a year. The Ducks are likely to sell him off at the trade deadline to pick up prospects or picks.

Vladislav Gavrikov is a well-rounded defensive defenseman playing bigger minutes in Columbus. He's got size and reach and can be a shut-down guy who can penalty kill, and block shots. His $2.8 million cap hit is affordable for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Matt Roy is one of the players on Insider's list of potential replacements for Jake Muzzin. The Los Angeles Kings are trying to make the playoffs and have extra players. Roy has played only 17 minutes of hockey this season.

Carson Soucy is a pending UFA and he's a good depth player for the Maple Leafs. Seattle Kraken are out of the playoffs and Soucey plays only 16 minutes per game.

Dmitry Orlov and Nick Jensen are both injured and Washington Capitals are not in the playoffs. The Maple Leafs could sign either of them. Orlov is a $5.1 million player, Jensen is $2.5 million.

Matt Dumba is a pending UFA and his contract is worth $6 million. He plays over 20 minutes per night.
