The Coppa Italia quarterfinals kick off this week and on Tuesday night, Inter Milan will welcome Atalanta to San Siro for a titanic match-up. Inter are the reigning Coppa Italia trophy winner. The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in eight straight matches against Atalanta in all competitions and will fancy progressing to the semifinals.

Atalanta experienced a Serie A dip in November but have come back strong after the 2022 FIFA World Cup break. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team are on a six-match unbeaten streak in all competitions with four wins and two draws.

La Dea may be winless in eight straight matches versus Inter, but they picked up five draws during that timeframe. Inter go into the midweek cup match following a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Cremonese in the league.

The Nerazzurri were shocked the week before at home, losing 1-0 to Empoli. Inter were nearly knocked out of the cup in the previous round against Parma. Lautaro Martinez’s 88th-minute goal rescued the team and forced extra time. There, Inter won the tie.

Sportsbooks have Inter Milan as the favourites to win the fixture at odds of 10/11. Atalanta are the underdog at odds of 3/1. Bookmakers have the teams at odds of 5/2 to draw at full-time.

Inter Milan vs Atalanta Team News

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has two players on the injury list at San Siro ahead of the match on Tuesday night. The Nerazzurri coach will be without goalkeeper Samir Handanovic, who is nursing a muscle injury. Handanovic won’t return until February. The veteran goalkeeper was replaced earlier this season by former Ajax shot-stopper Andre Onana.

Midfielder Marcelo Brozovic will also miss the game through injury. The midfielder is nursing a calf strain and won’t return until February. Martinez rescued Inter in the round of 16, as his late goal forced extra time against Parma. The Argentine World Cup winner has 14 goals and five assists this season in all competitions for Inter. Edin Dzeko has added 11 goals in all matches.

Atalanta coach Gasperini has two players on the injury list going into the game on Tuesday. Defender Jose Palomino is ruled out with a leg injury. Midfielder Davide Zappacosta has a hamstring strain and is set to miss matches until mid-February.

La Dea are led in goals by Ademola Lookman, with 14. Lookman scored against Inter in the league earlier this season, as Atalanta fell 3-2. No other Atalanta player has scored in double figures. Atalanta have tallied 44 goals in 21 matches in all competitions while conceding 25 times.

Inter Milan vs Atalanta H2H

Inter and Atalanta played in November in Serie A during the latter’s poor run of league form. Atalanta got on the scoresheet first thanks to a penalty goal from Lookman after 25 minutes. However, goals from Edin Dzeko on either side of halftime put Inter up 2-1.

Jose Palomino of Atalanta then scored an own goal just after the hour-mark to put Inter up 3-1. Palomino came back and scored a goal for Atalanta with 13 minutes left on the clock. However, it wasn’t enough for La Dea to finish off the comeback.

The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in eight straight games versus Atalanta. Five of those matches ended in draws and just three in wins for Inter. Four of their last seven head-to-head matches finished with both teams scoring.

Atalanta play well on the road and have a record of six wins, three draws, and one defeat on the road in 2022-23. Inter are a strong home side with a record of 10 wins, one draw, and three losses at San Siro. However, the Nerazzurri are winless in two of their last three home matches in all tournaments.

Inter Milan vs Atalanta Betting Tips

Atalanta have struggled to win in head-to-head games versus Inter in recent seasons. However, La Dea still picked up draws during that timeframe. Atalanta are improving and the 2022 FIFA World Cup break helped them significantly.

In Serie A, Inter and Atalanta are battling for a top-four finish. Just two points separate second-place Inter and fourth-place Atalanta in the standings. A win for either team in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals could have a knock-on effect in the Serie A top-four race.

Bookmakers have Inter and Atalanta at odds of 8/13 to both score goals. The teams combined for five goals at the Gewiss Stadium in November. Although Atalanta won 2-0 against Sampdoria at the weekend, their games have been high scoring. Five of Atalanta’s last six games ended with both teams scoring. Those same five matches ended with over 2.5 goals.

Four of Inter’s last eight games in all competitions finished with over 2.5 goals, including their 2-1 come-from-behind win over Cremonese at the weekend. The teams are at odds of 7/10 to both score. Inter came from behind to win at the weekend and are at odds of 7/1 to win from behind versus Atalanta.

Inter Milan vs Atalanta Prediction

Inter failed to win two of their last three games at San Siro. One of those three games was a Coppa Italia round of 16 match versus Parma. The Crusaders were just two minutes away from winning the match and knocking the Coppa Italia holders out of the competition. However, a late Lautaro Martinez goal gave Inter new life, as they went on to win in extra time.

Atalanta are a far better team than Serie B’s Parma. Moreover, La Dea are in excellent form ahead of the match on Tuesday night and should take the game to Inter. Five of the last eight matches between these clubs finished as draws. Three of the last four head-to-head meetings between Inter and Atalanta at San Siro ended as draws.

Our betting tips prediction is for a draw to occur on Tuesday night at San Siro. The teams will need extra time and possibly penalties to sort out which one progresses to the semifinals. Atalanta are playing well, but the voodoo Inter have over them should continue.
