Ireland ramp up their World Cup preparations when they take on England at the Aviva Stadium this evening.

England will be able to call upon the services of their captain Owen Farrell who escaped sanction despite receiving a red card for a high tackle against Wales last weekend. The decision has been slammed by many, but regardless, Farrell will be free to line out for England when the World Cup begins next month.

As for Ireland, they will be looking to build upon their decent win over Italy in Dublin a fortnight ago. For the next couple of weeks, building fitness and avoiding any major injuries will be on the minds of the Irish management staff.

5.30pm is the scheduled start time.

Team news

Andy Farrell will name his side to face England on Thursday. Johnny Sexton is still banned and will not feature before the World Cup. Jack Conan's fitness status remains clouded in mystery but he seems to be unavailable for the weekend. Keith Earls will feature from the bench and could win his 100th Irish cap.

England will also name their side later in the week, but we do know that Owen Farrell is free to play after escaping punishment for his red card tackle against Wales on Saturday. Jack Van Poortvliet will miss the World Cup with an ankle injury.

Keith Earls on making his 100th cap:

"I know what it feels like to be that low and thinking that’s it," Earls explained.

"That was the feeling I had - I thought that was it, I thought it could be the last time. But thankfully, I clawed my way back.

"It was a high grade-three on the scan. It was like a 3C tear. And to be honest with you, I’d given up coming home on the plane.

"I knew it was a bad one. I got the scan and we got the results, and I was like, 'That’s it, I’m not going to be able to get enough games under my belt for Andy (Farrell) to pick me to get into the squad'.

"I was just like, 'I’m going to fizzle out here'.

"It would be a massive honour but also just a bit of relief because I was stuck on 98 since the New Zealand tour, then getting one against Italy," he said.

"So yeah, a bit of relief to get there, but extremely proud and I’m sure my family would be as well."
