Islanders vs Canucks Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The Vancouver Canucks have one of the hottest offenses in the league and now they'll go up against an Islanders team who can barely put the puck in the net. That's a recipe for disaster, and our NHL picks are expecting a Canucks blowout.

Two teams trending in wildly different directions square off Wednesday night in BC, when the Vancouver Canucks host the New York Islanders.

Vancouver has been one of the surprise teams in the league, ripping off a 9-1-1 mark in its last 11 and contending for the top spot in the West. Meanwhile, New York has lost five straight, and the last four in regulation — a big reason it's a 1.5-goal underdog in the NHL odds.

Let’s look into this Islanders vs Canucks matchup so I can provide you my free NHL picks.

Islanders vs Canucks predictions

The Vancouver Canucks aren’t just sneaking up on teams, they're blowing them out of the water.

The ‘Nucks are the NHL’s highest-scoring club, pumping in 4.4 tallies per game, and they're one of two teams in the league to crack the four-goals per-game barrier.

The offense isn't just coming from the forwards, either, as blueliners Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek continue to be key pieces in keeping this motor running. Hughes is just the second defenseman ever to have 18 assists through 15 games in multiple years, following last year’s torrid start. This list of D-men that have done that? It’s Hughes and... Bobby Orr.

Meanwhile, Hronek will try to extend his assist streak to 11 games on Wednesday, which would tie the franchise mark held by Dennis Kearns and Hank Sedin. This team isn't all defense though as it's surrendering just 2.2 goals per game — making Vancouver the only team in the NHL to rank Top 4 in goals for and goals against.

Thatcher Demko likely returns between the pipes after Casey DeSmith picked up the win in Montreal. Demko looks to build on his brilliant 7-3-0 mark, with a 1.96 GAA and .935 SV%.

As for the New York Islanders, well... they're a mess. N.Y. is tallying just 2.36 goals per game while allowing 3.14 per contest — both ranking 31st. New York has scored just six goals in the last four games and has lost by at least two goals in four straight... not a great combination when taking on one of the elite teams in the first quarter of the season.

I’m confident Vancouver will run away with this game as it's won by at least two goals in seven straight, and 11 times in 15 games this season.

Islanders vs Canucks same-game parlay

Canucks -1.5

Miller anytime goalscorer

There are a myriad of Canucks that I could target here to light the lamp, but I'm going with J.T. Miller to score in this two-leg single-game parlay.

Brock Boeser leads the team with 12 goals and should be a good candidate here to score, but all six of his home goals have come in two games — both against the hapless Edmonton Oilers. One of those games was the season-opening 8-1 drubbing where he scored four times.

Elias Pettersson has five home goals, but he also had a hat-trick in a win against the Predators. Miller, on the other hand, has five of his nine goals at home, against five different teams. He’s also put in three of those goals via the powerplay, where the Canucks are dynamite.

Their 31.6% success rate is third best in the NHL, and Miller should have ample opportunities to cash in against an Islanders side that has the eighth-worst penalty kill in the league.

Islanders vs Canucks moneyline and Over/Under analysis

Even with the night and day statistical numbers between these two teams, the spread has stayed consistently at 1.5, with a few books bringing it down to a single goal.

The Canucks have been a bettors dynamo, ripping off a 13-2-0 mark against the spread early in this season, while the Islanders are struggling at 4-10-0 ATS.

The books have also found the six-goal mark the sweet spot, a figure that balances out Vancouver’s penchant to score, and New York’s inability to light the lamp. If you’re targeting the Under, you can find this number at 6.5.
