The Philadelphia Flyers face the Vancouver Canucks with both teams looking to improve from rough seasons. The Flyers have a 22-24-10 record and with back-to-back losses are at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. The Canucks have a 21-30-4 record and with three losses in a row have fallen to the bottom of the Pacific Division. Both teams look to end their skids and improve in their divisions and the upcoming game should be a good one.

Flyers defense has been awful this season

The Flyers are having a season to forget with their offense letting them down, scoring only 2.68 goals per game. Kevin Hayes, Travis Konecny, and Scott Laughton have scored 55 goals and 74 assists but the rest of the offense has struggled. Only five skaters have 10 goals or more and opponents can eliminate the hapless offense as a result.

The offense has let the Flyers down but the defense has also been awful, allowing only 3.14 goals per game with 10 goals in the last two games. Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim have combined for 5.0 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net with ease. The one bright spot has been the play of goaltender Carter Hart who has a .911 save percentage and a 2.85 goals-against average on 1252 shots with 6.9 goals saved above average.

Canucks defense has been awful

The Canucks are having an awful season despite their offense stepping up and scoring 3.31 goals per game. Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, and Andrei Kuzmenko have combined for 77 goals and 95 assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has also stepped up. Conor Garland, Brock Boeser, and Dakota Joshua have combined for 29 goals and 49 assists while defenseman Quinn Hughes has added five goals and 46 assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense has been one of the worst in the league, allowing 4.05 goals per game including 17 goals in the last three games. Quinn Hughes and Luke Schenn have combined for 4.6 defensive point shares but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing opponents to find open shots on the net at will. Additionally, goaltender Colin Delia has been awful with a .878 save percentage and a 3.48 goals-against average on 369 shots with -10.3 goals saved above average.

Rating:

The Flyers look to snap their losing streak but the Canucks look to step up on their home ice and control the upcoming game. The Canucks should find the back of the net at will against a Flyers defense that allows 3.14 goals per game with Elias Petterson, J.T. Miller, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes near the net. The Canucks should limit a Flyers offense that is scoring only 2.68 goals per game with Quinn Hughes, Luke Schenn, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shooting lanes, allowing goaltender Colin Delia to make plenty of big saves. The Canucks should win the game and snap their three-game losing streak with a strong performance on their home ice.
