ITV Racing Tips on September 29th

The ITV Racing team will pitch up at Newmarket on Friday, ready to bring us the best of the action on day two of the Cambridgeshire Meeting. Four races will be shown live on ITV, including a pair of valuable Group Twos in the Rockfel and Joel Stakes.

Friday's ITV Racing Schedule

ITV Racing Tips - Friday 29th September

Race 1 - Rosemary Stakes Tips

Chances can be given to plenty in this wide-open renewal of the Rosemary Stakes. At the prices, the one I'm most keen to back is AMEYNAH, despite a poor effort at Salisbury last time out.

Roger Varian's filly gathered some valuable experience on the Rowley Mile last season, winning a maiden impressively before finishing a creditable sixth in the 1000 Guineas. Ameynah ran a blinder on her belated reappearance in the Valiant Stakes at Ascot in July, before failing to see out ten furlongs at Salisbury two weeks later.

A 44-day break should have helped Ameynah shake off the after-effects of that performance. Back down over a mile and on a course she knows well, I'd be disappointed if David Egan's mount wasn't much more competitive.

Race 2 - Princess Royal Stakes Tips

VOODOO QUEEN finished a well-beaten seventh in this race 12 months ago. Roger Varian's filly might be a year older this time around, but she returns to Newmarket on the back of an excellent win at Pontefract and I feel that David Egan's mount has, again, been overlooked in the betting.

Having finished a very close third behind River Of Stars in the Bronte Cup in May, Voodoo Queen ran out an impressive winner of the Castle Fillies' Stakes. Varian's filly hasn't been seen since that Listed triumph 96 days ago, but the second and third went on to place second and fourth behind Sumo Sam in the Group Two Park Stakes earlier this month, so the form has a nice ring to it. Voodoo Queen loves quick ground and she's a very strong stayer over this distance.

Race 3 - Rockfel Stakes Tips

Shuwari ran out an impressive winner of the Star Stakes at Sandown in July, beating a future Group One winner, Fallen Angel by half-a-length. Ollie Sangster's filly hasn't been seen since that victory 64 days ago and the quick ground at Newmarket might not be to her liking.

ALSHINFARAH is a half-sister to Raabihah, who won a Group Three in France and placed in several Group Ones. Kevin Philippart De Foy's filly - who won nicely on her first couple of novice starts - attempted to make all in the Prix d'Aumale earlier this month and was only relegated to third in the strides before the line.

Dropping back down to seven furlongs might not be ideal for a filly who clearly has plenty of stamina, but the Rowley Mile is suited to strong stayers and Jim Crowley's mount has the ability to contend.

Race 4 - Joel Stakes Tips

Friday's ITV action ends with a fascinating renewal of the Joel Stakes, where I fancy MIGHTY ULYSSES could claim his second victory on the Rowley Mile.

John and Thady Gosden's colt beat Alflaila in the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes last season, before losing out to that rival in the Strensall Stakes. Mighty Ulysses was well beaten on his return from an 11-month absence at Ascot in July, but bounced back to top form at Salisbury last month, dead-heating with 108-rated Embesto when giving the odds-on favourite seven pounds at the weights.

Oisin Murphy's mount has always had plenty of potential and ground conditions will certainly suit. He could make the breakthrough at Group Two level on Friday.
