James Harden demands trade from 76ers. What NBA team wants him?

James Harden isn't coming back to the Sixers.

The talented, but aging point guard on the Philadelphia 76ers, said on a video this week while in China that he will not return to the Sixers.

"Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of," Harden said. "Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of."

So in June, the guard, who opted into the final season of his $35.6 million contract with the expectation that the Sixers would work to trade him.

So where will he end up?

If he doesn't want to return to the Sixers, where he helped the team reach the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, who will trade for him?

James Harden next team odds

Bookies.com oddsmaker Adam Thompson has his thoughts. Here are his odds on where Harden ends up.

  • Los Angeles Clippers +500 (16.7%)
  • Atlanta Hawks +550 (15.4%)
  • Minnesota Timberwolves +650 (13.3%)
  • Philadelphia 76ers +750 (11.8%)
  • Miami Heat +800 (11.1%)
  • Portland Trail Blazers +1000 (9.1%)
  • New Orleans Pelicans +1000 (9.1%)
  • Los Angeles Lakers +1500 (6.3%)
  • Houston Rockets +1750 (5.4%)
  • The Field +700 (12.5%)
  • Retire/International Team +1000 (9.1%)

If you're betting, your worst bet would be taking retire or international team, because he's already signed for the year. He's not going to walk away from all that money.

The Clippers is where he wants to go, but so far there's been little talk that they're willing to give up much to get him. The Hawks have a great point guard and while they might trade Trea Young, it's hard to believe they'd want Harden in return.

Harden doesn't have a lot of leverage. Sitting out could impact his free agent status after the year, so his best bet is to play. And the Sixers should want to unload him because anyone who watched the Brooklyn Nets in 2020-2021 realizes he's not afraid to be a disruptive influence on the floor.

Both Harden and the Sixers will be better when this is over. Now it's just a matter of finding any team to give up some worthwhile assets to make the trade.

If that's their plan, they're not making it known. According to ESPN, Morey said last week the team is no longer looking to trade him.
