James Harden was promised quick trade by ‘liar’ Daryl Morey (report)

The drama between James Harden, Daryl Morey and the 76ers only continues to escalate.

The NBA superstar called the Philadelphia president of basketball operations a “liar” and vowed to never play for the 76ers franchise — or one that Morey is part of — again. Apparently, this all stemmed from the team not trading Harden.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Harden was told by Morey he’d be traded “quickly” if he opted into his $35.6 million option. He did, and reportedly was determined to begin the 2023-24 NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers.

But the trade never came and the Sixers shut down trade talks for the 10-time All-Star, which led to Harden ranting about Morey being a liar at an event in China earlier this month.

“Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,” Harden told those in attendance. “Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”

Harden also told KHOU11 in Houston that he believed his relationship with Morey was beyond repair, but ESPN reported Sunday night that the seven-time All-NBA select is expected to report to training camp in September despite the ongoing feud.

made it clear that, although he wanted to “honor” Harden’s request, the Sixers wanted to be sure to get back a player that could help the team right now, or draft picks that could turn into a good player for the future.

It’s unclear what Harden’s future holds in Philadelphia. For what it’s worth, he’s requested a trade three times since the 2020 season.

held onto Ben Simmons for a majority of the 2021-22 season after he asked for a trade. A trade eventually was found, but it took time — and it might be the same case for Harden.
