This will be the first meeting between Muchova and Collins. Muchova, ranked outside the top 130 in the world, made light work of opponent Lesia Tsurenko in the first round. This makes this match tricky to call as Muchova looked confident.
But she is meeting a top-fifteen seed in this fixture. So we just have to swing with Collins who can still raise her game from her First Round Performance.
Collins -1.5 Games Handicap
Collins can be a lot more clinical than she was in her opening match. We can perhaps put it down to her running out some of her early-season rust. The American clearly has an affinity with Melbourne Park.
She should take this match against Muchova, and we think it will be in straight sets. It may not just be completely plain sailing all the way for her, however. But the gritty American can cover a -1.5 handicap.

Muchova makes her return to Melbourne Park this year after missing the 2022 action. She raced past Lesia Tsurenko 6-2 6-1 in the opening round. The 26-year-old had a stunning run to the Australian Open semi-finals in 2021, completely out of the blue. But the consistency in finding those big performances has been lacking in her overall game. Muchova didn’t make it far in her warm-up tournament in Auckland.
Danielle Collins
Collins rattled the crossbar at last year’s Australian Open, finally conceding supremacy in the Final to Ashleigh Barty. This is just the fifth trip to Melbourne Park for one of the US leading contenders. Collins has reached at least the semi-finals in two of her previous four Australian Open appearances. She struggled for momentum in her 2-1 opening win over the unseeded Anna Kalinskaya but should be better as the tournament progresses.
