Kentucky Derby preps in New York, California top weekend horse racing

Kentucky Derby preps in New York and California highlight the weekend horse racing schedule. Cyberknife is on the guest list for the Grade I Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 28. Dubai World Carnival is off and running Friday. Hong Kong and England are preparing for World Cups at the end of this month and the All-Weather Championships.

Speed Boat Beach returns to dirt after finishing ninth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Reincarnate got his first win in his fourth start in November at Del Mar. Packs a Whalop won the Grade III DelMar Juveniles Turfing. Spun Intended makes his third start for trainer Mark Glatt off a maiden win Nov. 26 at the Delmar. Saturday's $200,000 California Cup Derby at Santa Anita is restricted to state-breds. Sunday's Corralito Steak House Stakes at Sunland Park is for New Mexico- breds and is 1 mile. Hyacinth Stake on Feb. 19 at Tokyo Racecourse and Road to the Kentucky Derby Conditions Stages on March 1 at Kempton Park are next.

Le Da Vida, Lovely Ride and Coach are in the Oaklawn Park field for Saturday's $150,000 Pippin Stakes at 1 1/16 miles.

Cyberknife, Defunded and Proxy are among the invited runners for the Pegasus World Cup on Jan. 28 at Gulfstream Park. Cyberknife won the 2022 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park and the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park, while Defuned won at Santa Anita and Native Diver at Del Mar. Proxy is trained by Baffert, who sent Arrogate to win the 2017 Pegasus. Colonel Liam is among twelve invited for Grade I Pegasus Turf.

The World Cup Carnival starts Friday at Meydan with the Maktoum Challenge Round 1 at 1,600 meters on the dirt and the Al Fahidi Fort at 1.400 meters. Doug Watson has six of the 16 entries for the Challenge. Prince Eiji is the favorite for Al Fahidi. Noble Truth and Al Suhail are the other two horses in the Fort.

Golden Sixty is preparing for the Group 1 Stewards' Cup on January 29. He is the reigning Hong Kong Horse of the Year. Golden S sixty and California Spangle finished 1-2 in the Longines Hongkong Mile last month. Romantic Warrior has won nine of 10 starts in Hong kong.  

The All-Weather Championships are taking place. The winner of the extended 2-mile race on Sunday gets a guaranteed spot in the divisional championship race at Newcastle on Good Friday.
