Kentucky to Try Legalizing Sports Betting Again

Kentucky is considering legalizing sports betting again. The state legislature reconvened this week. Gov. Andy Beshear said during his state of the commonwealth address that he will file legislation to legalize sports gambling.

There is a bill in the House of Representatives that would authorize sports betting at racetracks and online sports gambling sites. It is sponsored by Democrats, but the state's legislature is dominated by Republicans.

Kentucky will try to legalize sports betting again. Last year's attempt to do so failed because the legislator who proposed it lost a primary challenge. The state has long had wagering on one sport, horse racing, but no others. Ohio legalized sports gambling on January 1.
