The end of the college football regular season is here for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Heading into week 12, the Cats are sitting at 6-5 and are heading for a date with a top-10 squad in the Louisville Cardinals.

Kentucky is coming off of a crushing loss to South Carolina, where once again, the offense and coaching failed to get the team over the hump. Add in the three turnovers, and it was a very ugly game in Columbia.

The question becomes, what is next for this Kentucky football team? Unfortunately, they will be running into a Louisville squad that is playing good football this season.

In Jeff Brohm’s first season as the head ball coach for the Cards, he has flipped the tides tremendously from the Scott Satterfield era. Currently sitting at 10-1, Louisville clinched an ACC Championship game spot with their win over Miami on Saturday afternoon. The specialty for this team has been the ability to win in close games.

You can look at Miami, Virginia, or their matchup with North Carolina State and see that they have gone out and won some football games this season. A statement that we could not say about the Cards program over the last several years.

Now, the tides have flipped on the programs. Mark Stoops was once the poster boy as he led the Kentucky program back to relevance in the SEC, and now the program has regressed quite a bit. Brohm took over a shell of a program and has turned it into a playoff contender in year one.

One thing the Cats do have in their favor, however, is overall roster talent. Despite Brohm’s success, he has built it by primarily utilizing talent he recruited from the transfer portal. It will be important for guys like Deone Walker, Dane Key, Trevin Wallace, and Barion Brown to step up if Kentucky hopes to pull off the upset in Louisville on Saturday.

Going to be an interesting one at L&N Stadium on Saturday. Let’s hope the Cats can push this season to 7-5 and avoid total disaster.
