Klay Thompson Next Team Odds: West Coast Taking The Lead

Klay Thompson has been an anchor on four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors. The 2023-24 season may be the last hurrah between the five-time All-Star and the only team on which he’s played.

Negotiations on a contract extension between Thompson and the Warriors have gained no traction, according to an ESPN report. He is due to make $43.2 million this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer.

Bookies.com veteran oddsmaker Adam Thompson has revealed his projected as to where Klay calls home for the 2024-25 season.

Could Klay Thompson Possibly Become A Free Agent?

Thompson was an All-Star five years running before injuries wiped out 2.5 years of playing time. Last year was his first full season back, and he picked up where he left off. His 21.9 points per game ranked as the second-highest of his career. Klay attempted and made more 3’s per game than any other season.

The 6-foot-6 wing would be a massive addition, in terms of play and personality, for any contender. The asking price is prohibitive for any number of teams, without a possible sign-and-trade.

Klay is the first of the Warriors dynasty that could be on the hopes. Newly acquired Chris Paul becomes a free agent in 2025, Steph Curry in ’26, and Draymond Green and Andre Wiggins in ’27.

When it comes to signing Thompson, the Warriors still have a leg up on the rest of the league. They’ve managed to keep Curry and Green, and while it’s been a stalemate in negotiations so far, NBA teams often find a way when both sides want to make it work.

If the sides can’t agree, Thompson will have choices.

Where Will Klay Thompson Play Next?

Thompson exudes West Coast cool, and he’s only played or lived on the coast. The L.A. native could see an opportunity to remain in the region. The Clippers and Lakers are on the hunt for a championship before their aging rosters get over the hill.

Of the two, the Clippers have $23 million more in available cap space and possible sign-and-trade options including Paul George. The Lakers may offer more cache, but the Clippers have practicality.

Outside of California, there are teams that could break the bank to fill a need and push them to another level.

The Philadelphia 76ers are craving a championship while NBA MVP Joel Embiid is still in town. The Sixers have over $65 million in projected cap space for the next off-season and a lot of holes to fill. James Harden will be off the roster for then, and Tyrese Maxey would likely be moved to the point guard spot. If Thompson is going to leave the Pacific time zone, the Sixers keep Thompson on a title contender.

The San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic each have a lot of cap space and a need for a sharpshooter on the outside. Thompson can be that guy and the veteran with rings who can guide a younger squad. The Toronto Raptors also have a need and are flush with cash.

The Field includes marquee spots that could pull a sign-and-trade for the charismatic Thompson, including the Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, and Chicago Bulls
