Knicks Reporter Sounds Off on Team’s Season Expectations: ‘The Bar is Low’

The New York Knicks are two seasons away from their potential to be the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference standings. Last season they finished in 11th place with a record of 37-45. NBA Insider Ian Begley believes their low expectations could be a positive for the team. He believes that if the bar is low, exceeding expectations becomes easier. The Knicks missed the playoffs for 17th time since the turn of the century in 2021-22. They won the 2020-21 NBA season. Their current core is intact. New players are Julius Randle, RJ Barrett, and Derrick Rose.

Knicks reporter Begley believes the team could be a legitimate play-in candidate at the end of the season. However, the Eastern Conference teams that participated in the play in tournament last season had win totals hovering around the mid-40s. The Knicks signed Jalen Brunson and failed to sign Donovan Mitchell this summer.

Tom Thibodeau's future with the Knicks is uncertain. He is a two-time NBA Coach of the Year winner. The Knicks finished 10th in the East last season. Thibodesh will be fired if they finish 10 thirrd.   He has been fired in each of his previous three stints as a head coach.
