Knicks vs Grizzlies Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

Injuries have put the Grizzlies' season into early hibernation, and our NBA picks expect the Knicks to be comfortable on the road tonight when they enter FedExForum.

The New York Knicks dropped a tough game in Dallas their last time out, but with five wins in their last six games they’ll come into Memphis with a head of steam against a team which likes to play the same way they do — physically.

New York’s defense is every bit as good as Memphis’s, and with a decided edge on the perimeter, it should be well-positioned to pick up another win on Saturday. Will the Knicks reverse some of the trends in the NBA odds we’ve seen out of them this year and earn a cover?

Let's get right into it with our in-depth preview and free NBA picks for Knicks vs. Grizzlies on Saturday, January, 13.

Knicks vs Grizzlies predictions

The Knicks may not be a favorite of bettors with their so-so 55.6% cover rate in all games, but one scenario that has been great for New York is a game where it’s laying on points on the road. As road favorites, the Knicks are a solid 6-3 against the spread despite their 11-12 straight-up record, and there’s plenty of reason to believe they can keep it up on Saturday.

The Grizzlies have now won three in a row, two of which have come after Ja Morant was lost for the season, but this 29th-ranked offense is still just 26th in scoring efficiency over the last 10 games and the stellar defensive numbers have drifted as well.

Memphis may still own an elite defense at the rim, but that won’t bother the Knicks much considering their propensity for the mid-range jumper and their brilliance from distance. The Grizzlies shouldn’t be able to hang with the Knicks on the perimeter here, and on the other side of the ball this defense has grown by leaps and bounds with the acquisition of OG Anunoby, which should make life even more difficult on Memphis offensively.

We’ll be closely monitoring the status of Jalen Brunson, who is listed as questionable with a left calf contusion, but the injury is pretty minor in nature and shouldn’t affect the proceedings all that much. New York is considerably better than Memphis and should welcome a hard-nosed, defensive battle.

My best bet: Knicks -8 (-110 at DraftKings)

Knicks vs Grizzlies same-game parlay

Knicks -8.5

Donte DiVencenzo 3+ threes made

Jalen Brunson Over 27.5 points

Sure, the Knicks should dominate the proceedings here, but who has success offensively in what’s expected to be a battle of two defenses?

The first man I’m looking at is Donte DiVincenzo, who has stepped into the starting shooting guard role quite brilliantly over the last couple of months. The Knicks have asked him to be a 3-point shooter, and he’s certainly delivered by knocking down 45.5% of his outside looks since being elevated to the starting five 18 games ago.

DiVencenzo, who will go up against one of the five worst 3-point defenses in basketball, has knocked down at least three triples in four of his last five contests, and should be trustworthy here to knock down three in this contest.

Brunson is similarly in a great spot against a team which has struggled around the perimeter. Yes, Memphis has done a decent job against the mid-range jumper, but the story was more or less the same last year when Brunson torched this team for 30 points in his most recent encounter with the Grizzlies. He did struggle in the other meeting between these two teams last season, but that was his first game in a Knicks uniform. He’s on a different level right now, and he should go for at least 28 points for a fourth time in five games.

Knicks vs Grizzlies spread and Over/Under analysis

The number here is low, but I think the Under is still very much the play in Memphis on Saturday.

The Knicks have played good defense all season long, but they’ve stepped it up over the last 10 games with a Top-10 rank, and if they’re able to control the proceedings, they should bring this game to a screeching halt, given they rank just 25th in pace this season. Memphis, too, has slowed to just 24th in pace over the last two games since losing Morant once more, this time to injury.

The Under is 5-4 in games in which the Knicks were road favorites, and it is a stunning 12-5 when the Grizzlies play at home.

On top of that, it’s worth noting that the Over is commanding a whopping 81% of the tickets wagered on the total over at DraftKings, and 87% of the cash is on the Over. The Knicks have received a strong 76% of spread tickets and 65% of the cash.
