Danka Kovinic v Lauren Davis Head to Head

Danka Kovinic and Lauren Davis have met twice on the WTA Tour. The head-to-head is tied at 1-1 with both matches taking place in 2021. Davis held the upper hand on hard courts winning in Guadalajara, before Kovinic triumphed on the clay of Charleston.

And the Montenegrin carried that momentum to the New Year, upsetting Hibino in straight sets. The match was actually played on indoor hard courts as heavy rains continue to halt play on the outdoor courts in Auckland. And with further rain interruptions during the day, the organizers are in a race against time to clear the overflow of matches on Thursday.

Kovinic though is scheduled to be in action first up to take on Lauren Davis.

Davis Too Good for Zidansek

Lauren Davis thumped Tamara Zidansek 6-2 6-1 in her first-round match that was played on postponed yesterday due to multiple rain interruptions.

And with sodden outdoor courts not drying quickly enough, matches were scheduled on indoor hard courts. And that was where Zidansek was extremely vulnerable.

Overall, the American who is a former champion in Auckland broke serve five times. She also won over 60% points behind both first and second serves as Zidansek started off the year dismally.

It was Davis’ first main draw win on hard courts since defeating Lucia Bronzetti at the US Open. Can she now overcome an in-form Kovinic on Thursday?

Kovinic v Davis Prediction and Tip

Davis absolutely pulverized Zidansek in that opening match. The change of surface and playing conditions certainly did not help the Slovenian who just couldn’t get into a rhythm.

That won’t be the case for Kovinic who has been in a rich vein of form from the backend of last year. We expect a very close contest, but the American is rightly the favorite.
