Lakers vs Suns Prediction, Odds & Picks

The 2023-24 NBA In-Season Tournament continues with another slate of group play matchups on Friday, Nov. 10. One showdown out west pits the Los Angeles Lakers against the Phoenix Suns on ESPN at 11 p.m. ET.

These foes are heading in opposite directions ahead of their group play debuts. The Lakers are owners of a three-game losing streak following a 129-94 loss to the Houston Rockets. Meanwhile, the Suns search for a third straight winning after picking up a 116-115 overtime victory over the Chicago Bulls.

When it comes to Bovada’s NBA futures odds, Los Angeles and Phoenix are two of the top contenders to win the in-season tournament. The Suns are available at +1200 odds (No. 5) to win the inaugural competition while the Lakers are right behind them at +1800 (T-No. 6).

Nevertheless, let’s get into the rest of this betting preview, which features the latest NBA odds, tonight’s best bets, and my Lakers vs Suns prediction.

Lakers vs Suns Prediction & Pick (Nov. 10)

Tonight marks the second matchup between the Lakers and Suns this season. The Pacific Division rivals collided back on Oct. 26, ending in a 100-95 victory for Los Angeles as Anthony Davis led the way with a 30-point, 12-rebound double-double.

Having said that, history repeating itself tonight is far from guaranteed. For starters, there’s no telling if Davis will be healthy enough to play. He’s expected to be a game-time decision after missing Wednesday’s contest with a hip injury.

The Suns are dealing with injuries, too, but it’s more of a mixed situation. While Devin Booker (calf) has already been ruled out, Bradley Beal (back) is probable to suit up. The three-time all-star made his Suns debut earlier this week, finishing with 13 PTS/4 REB/4 AST while shooting 50.0% from three-point range.

On top of that, the Lakers have been awful away from home this season. All three of their last three losses took place on the road, where they’re 0-5 thus far. That’s without mentioning how they own the NBA’s fifth-worst average on the road (minus-14.2).

For reference, the Suns are a respectable plus-3.3 at home.

It’s also hard having faith in the Lakers when the defense collapses the second LeBron James leaves the floor. While “The King” owns a minus-6 rating during his team’s three-game slide, there are six players rated minus-20 or worse. One man just can’t do everything on his own.

The Suns are a more well-balanced team where one star is capable of stepping up if another has a bad night. Chances are that if LeBron isn’t hitting his shots, the Lakers aren’t keeping things close.

Speaking of struggling to keep things close, Los Angeles is 2-6 ATS this season, which includes going 1-4 ATS on the road. Unfortunately for the visitors, the Suns have covered the spread in nine of their last 12 encounters with the Lakers.

With how poorly the Lakers have performed on the road this season, I predict a Suns victory tonight. I just can’t bring myself to back Los Angeles as long as Davis is hurt and LeBron isn’t getting proper support.

The Suns have looked strong in back-to-back games and their success against the spread when the Lakers are concerned will help them cover again tonight.

Lakers vs Suns Prediction: PHX wins

Lakers vs Suns Best Player Prop

Kevin Durant is back at it again, averaging 29.3 points on 61.5% true shooting through eight games. So do I think it’ll be an issue for him to finish with tonight?

Absolutely not.

The two-time Finals MVP is averaging 31.3 PPG across his four previous outings, finishing with 31-plus points in two of the last three. He’s also made good on this prop in back-to-back outings against the Lakers, most recently finishing with a 39-point showing back on Oct. 26.

With the Suns needing more offense with Booker being sidelined tonight, expect Durant to step up and deliver.

Bet: Kevin Durant o28.5 Points (-125 on Bovada)
